About

Leave More Traces is a brand showcasing leather wallets and bags, leather made in Mexico City and produced in New Mexico. Founded by Lucia Maher Tatar.

The intention is that LMT is a project of unchartered dimensions, leather accessories as the host for conversations, mediums intersecting, and transdisciplinary productions.

LMT's first release is a wallet with an unusual silhouette.

Finding a shape [in leather] is an act of unfocusing the gaze and seeing where two edges meet to form a “pocket”: A vessel, where all good stories begin. (Ursula K. Leguin's, Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction). If we must carry the notion of money, can it be taken out of the context of consumption? am ex visa master card ebt.

What would it be like to carry a wallet when the primary characteristic which money holds is exchange?

The process of going into production has been an investigation in web building, tracing the path of trade and mastery. First passage, sourcing the leather.

LMT is working with VENA PIEL, owned by Jose de Jesus, an artist of leather with deep knowledge of the material. The tannery, based in Mexico City, focuses on “imperfect” hides, honoring the marks on the skin of the animal.

Crazy Horse is a leather treatment that can be traced back to the Stone Age. It involves a process of saturating the dyed cow hide with oil and sealing it with wax. This type of leather takes the form of what it holds [it traces] and patinas with time and use.
LMT, with VENA, create our own crazy horse; raw cow hide from Leon, Guanajuato, dyed in a custom bath and hand finished in Mexico City, and assembled in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
